Stalag Moosburg e.V.
Verein zur Förderung interkultureller Begegnung
The registered association was founded at the end of 2013 and is recognized as a non-profit organization.
Objectives
Our mission is to preserve the memory of the history of the former prisoner of war camp Stalag VII A in Moosburg and the resulting developments for present and future generations and to make them tangible. This history is not only a chapter of the past, but has a living relation to the present and future of our society and democracy.
The camp shaped the lives of people from different backgrounds and cultures in a community of need. Not only in the captivity human encounters and creative movements developed, but also later in the growing together of thousands of new citizens with the native population Moosburg received a decisive impulse in the urban development. This intercultural encounter is just as much a social challenge today as it was then.
We would like to honor these people and their fates with events, research projects and guided tours. In international and intercultural encounters with citizens, visitors as well as relatives of former prisoners of war, we help to preserve the historical heritage of the town in a way that is appropriate for the present and the future.
The work of the association is project-oriented. The members come from different fields and work voluntarily in the respective projects. Special thanks go to the town council and the town of Moosburg for their idealistic and financial support in the implementation as well as to all external contributors to projects.

Vorstand
The founder of the association is former mayor Herbert Franz, for whom the preservation of the memory of Stalag VII A was always a concern. During his mandate (1978-84), the municipality acquired the land of the former POW cemetery in Oberreit as a memorial site. As chairman, he initiated groundbreaking projects and activities of the association. Herbert Franz is now honorary chairman of the association.
